Irreligiosophy vs Evidence 4 Faith Debate

It seems unfair to call it a debate. Chuck and Leighton talk to these guys like children. None of their arguments are very complex. Chuck handily ripped apart most of their arguments without really breaking a sweat. He corrects them on their own arguments a few times as well, which I found infinitely amusing. Leighton is unusually docile. I was hoping he would say something to offend the delicate theist sensibilities but I guess he understands the need for civility in such arenas.

One of the theists tries the old “show me positive evidence for a lack of god” argument pretty early on. I hate that so much. It makes me want to punch myself in the dick. When will theists understand that you have to bring evidence to support your claim of a magical bearded cloud man?

Towards the end of the show, he spouts a long contrived list of poor evidences for Christianity. He actually says prophecy. Prophecy? Really, dude? Show me one prophecy in the bible that predicts something that comes true in exactly the way the bible predicts. I’ll be the first one in line at the alter come Sunday. Prophecy is pretty easy to use as an argument for the existence of god when you have really broad prophecies and ignore all the prophecies that were wrong like these ones.

Also, entropy has nothing to do with bio genesis. You hear the Thermodynamics argument a lot. What does temperature exchange have to do with bio genesis? It’s a silly argument made by people with little understanding of the subject

The Kalam cosmological argument, the grand daddy of of stupid theist arguments. I love that Christians will spout this drivel at you thinking that it’s the best thing they have ever heard. They seldom realize that it’s old as dirt, and was most likely thought up by “scary” Muslims. For those that aren’t familiar with it, KCA is as such:

  1. (1) Everything that has a beginning of its existence has a cause of its existence.
  2. (2) The universe has a beginning of its existence.

  1. (3) The universe has a cause of its existence.
  2. (4) If the universe has a cause of its existence then that cause is God.

  1. (5) God exists.

This argument has been refuted so many times, I assumed people knew that it was dumb already. Hume crushed your intelligent design arguments hundreds of years ago, and Chuck just crushed your KCA, right now, again.

var agent=navigator.userAgent.toLowerCase(); var is_iphone = (agent.indexOf(‘mobile’)!=-1) && ((agent.indexOf(‘iphone’)!=-1) || (agent.indexOf(‘ipod’)!=-1)); if (is_iphone) { $(‘quicktime_embed-IlzGzfuBJc’).show(); $(‘flash_embed-IlzGzfuBJc’).hide(); } else { $(‘flash_embed-IlzGzfuBJc’).show(); $(‘quicktime_embed-IlzGzfuBJc’).hide(); }
